Artificial Intelligence Usage Policy

Artificial Intelligence Usage Policy at Revista Educação em Análise

Revista Educação em Análise establishes clear guidelines for the use of artificial intelligence (AI) by authors, editors, and reviewers. The implementation of these policies aims to ensure the integrity, reliability, and quality of publications, guaranteeing that academic contributions remain grounded in ethical and scientific principles.

In the academic context, Revista Educação em Análise recognizes that AI tools can assist in textual revision, the analysis of non-sensitive data, and other editorial processes. However, their use must be judicious to avoid ethical and academic issues.

This policy is in accordance with the "Guide for the use of Artificial Intelligence tools and resources in the communication of research on the SciELO Network," published in September 2023. The guide can be accessed at the following link: SciELO IA.

Guidelines for Authors

1. Transparency: The use of AI in the production of articles must be explicitly stated in the manuscript's methodology section.
2. Authorship: AI cannot be considered an author of articles. The human author is solely responsible for the integrity and originality of the content; this stance aligns with the guidelines of CAMBRIDGE, 2023; COPE, 2023.
3. Data Protection: Sensitive or unpublished data should not be shared with AI tools.
4. Permitted Use: AI tools may be used for production in the following terms: textual revision, detection of conflicting ideas, support in structuring the manuscript, analysis of non-sensitive data, translations, and revisions of publication norms. Furthermore, all analysis performed with the aid of AI must be reviewed by the authors, who are responsible for the publication in its entirety. The use of these tools must be reported through an AI usage declaration, both in the final version of the article as indicated by ELSEVIER, 2023.

AI Usage Declaration

Authors must include an AI usage declaration in their manuscripts, clearly and detailedly informing how the tools were employed in the development of the article. This declaration must contain the following items:
1. Tool used: Name and version of the AI tool employed.
2. Purpose of use: Explanation of how AI was used (e.g., grammatical revision, organization of ideas, data analysis, etc.).
3. Limits of AI contribution: Indication that AI was not responsible for the full generation of the content and that human authorship is fully responsible for the article.
4. Impact on writing and analysis: Description of how AI influenced the construction of the publication.
5. Ethical compliance: Declaration that the use of AI complies with the journal's guidelines and does not compromise the scientific integrity of the work (SciELO, 2023).

Guidelines for Editors and Reviewers

1. Identification of AI Use: Editors should assess whether there are indications of improper AI use and, if necessary, request clarification from the authors.
2. Critical Evaluation: Originality and academic integrity must be preserved, ensuring that AI does not compromise the scientific contribution of the articles.
3. Ethics and Biases: Reviewers should be attentive to potential biases generated by AI tools, avoiding the reproduction of misinformation or prejudices.
4. Use of AI in Review: AI may be used for spell checking, detection of conflicting ideas, translations, and revisions of publication norms. However, this use must be reported in the reviewers' review document and in the final version of the article by the Editors.
