This work seeks conceptual bases for carrying out a democratic education that overcomes the neoliberal and neoconservative movements in the current context. The research problem is: How the democratic education can be the factor of social transformation in a perspective of humanization and emancipation from neoliberal hegemony? The proposed objective is to investigate the contribution of a democratic education in the construction of a society emancipated from the hegemonies of neoliberal capital. The research is characterized as revision of literature focused on exploration of democratic education concept by Paulo Freire and Anisio Teixeira. The question studied becomes important considering that the lack of an education that promotes class consciousness and the critical thinking of current reality enable the ascension of hegemonic forces and the increase in inequalities, what restrains the oppressed to become subjects of their history. As result, the research rescues the contribution of Freire and Teixeira about one education that provides the experience of dialogue and critical thinking with democratic and liberating intentionality. Therefore, it is possible since school to form the autonomous subject committed to its active role in the construction of a society emancipated from domination of capitalist system.
