Abstract

Social Network Analysis (SNA) has been gaining space in Brazilian social sciences, but we still lack methodological discussions regarding its integration with qualitative methods. This paper outlines introductory notes to mixed methods in SNA. These notes are intended for empirical research in different thematic areas, with examples on crime and security. The paper discusses strengths and weaknesses of quantitative and qualitative methods in SNA, typologies of designs and strategies on how to integrate them, virtues and purposes of integrations, as well as practical challenges and fundamental problems.
