The Crusade Against Cultural Capital

cultural capital, anti-intellectualism, post-truth, alt-rightAbstract
The article analyzes the recent growth of anti-intellectualism, associated with the new extreme right (alt-right), using the category of “cultural capital”. Fueled by the new circuits for the dissemination of speeches, it promotes distrust in relation to the authorized voices of science, school and journalism, in favor of the spontaneous knowledge of the “common man”. The result is a situation that deprives holders of cultural capital – the dominated sectors of the ruling class, in Bourdieu's definition – in favor of holders of economic capital.
