A cannibal in the dock? Between canibalism and corpse violation in a legal case

In 2007, a Brazilian Midwest’s small town appeared in the panorama of the national press due to a murderer case that involved acts of cannibalism. The objective of this work is to articulate the legal narratives of the prosecution and the defense, contained in the court documents, in relation to the categories of cannibalism and corpse violation. It is, in a broad sense, a case study of cannibalism in urban context and its legal discursive representations, compound from the interpretation of axes such as violence, disgust, sympathy and silence, categories derived from the texts and legal documents. Far from looking for reasons, finally, what matters is the legal construction of the case and its semantic developments.References
