The Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia was officially created in 1964 and is still active today. For a better understanding of their emerge, it is necessary to analyze the Colombian context in the previous decades, including the murder of Jorge Eliécer Gaitán in 1948 and the posterior violence wave on the country, called La Violencia, where the first Colombian guerrilla groups were formed. The guerrilla’s cultural production addresses themes as the quotidian facts in camps and villages and the narratives of facts that are important for the group or the population. Many of their texts and poems are meant to show the voluntary trait of the guerrilla man, who is aware of the country situation and who fights to change it, trying to stimulate this same feeling in the people that read these verses. To erase the violent and criminal image of the guerrilla man that government authorities and the North-American media try to transmit to the population is also one of the objectives of these texts, full of meanings and popular symbols.Downloads
