Abstract

This article presents the close relationship between symbol and imaginary in the construction of a cultural identity in the poetry of Paula Tavares. Relationship capable of integrating a cultural complex directly connected with peoples, history, languages and civilizations. A relationship that inserts the thought capital of homo sapiens taking into account in Gilbert Durand's proposal “the imaginary” as an anthropological crossroads. In this process of “poetic creation”, the voice of the symbol and the echo of the imaginary are manifested in the poetry of Paula Tavares, authentically black literature, seeking to weave a polyphony interconnected in the Angolan cultural universe, rewriting it in a new path of the Angolan (African) subject.
