Tocqueville state and political participation

The article has the purpose of analyzing how Alexis of Tocqueville bases the political power -"legitimate monopoly of the use of the physical force" -and how he it explains the citizens' participation in the political decisions. The study could reveal that, to the eyes of Tocqueville, the political power -in the American case -was born from a social pact been celebrated among the Anglo-Americans, in the beginning of XVIIth century, with the purpose of promoting the well general of the English colonies and that the citizens' participation in the political is resulted of a confluence of factors such as social, political, economical, cultural and geographical.Downloads
