Syncretism through strange in the promiser payer

Abstract

The article presents a study of O pagador de promessas (Keeper of promises), by Dias Gomes, based on the text of Sigmund Freud entitled The Strange and studies about the cults of orishas by Carlos Moura. The analysis will focus more specifically on the relationship between two conceptions of religion and faith. The first, Catholicism, putting themselves in a position of official religion in the figure of the priest and butts. The second, Candomblé, standing as opposition and resistance to the dominant discourse of the Church. This confrontation shows how a work based on popular culture motivates deep historical reflections based on what the Viennese psychoanalyst considers as strange. These reflections are seen in the promise of Zé-do-burro to save the "animal with a human soul" made to Santa Barbara on a terreiro of Iansã, also blending into the language and the way of living consistent with the popular culture.
