Bases of oral literature: an analysis of the context of the library popular and cordel literature based on “literature and underdevelopment ”

Literature in Latin American countries has always encountered problems to develop for several reasons, as, as Professor Antonio Candido assesses, the material conditions for the sparse presence of literature are linked to illiteracy, lack of publics available for literature (due to the small number of real readers), non-specialization of local writers, conditions related to the “underdevelopment” of region. However, with such problems for the growth of the literate literary circle, space for forms unrecognized literary works based on orality created by figures from the peasantry and the periphery of large cities. In the present work, we analyze and compare in a generic way the conditions of creation and development of the Chilean Popular Lira and the Brazilian Cordel Literature, based on “Literature and underdevelopment ”by Antonio Candido, with the period of analysis of this context of basic literary forms oral the second half of the 19th century until the 1930s, a period when the Lira Popular stopped circulating.
