Abstract

This article analyzes the right to housing from the perspective of Afro-diasporic experiences in the urban context, understanding housing as a cultural, political, and affective practice of identity affirmation. Based on bibliographic research and an inductive approach, the study articulates perspectives from Afro-diasporic studies, critical geography, and the right to the city to discuss how Black communities construct insurgent territorialities in the face of structural racism and urban exclusion. It argues that the right to housing, beyond its legal and infrastructural dimensions, is an expression of the right to difference, memory, and the symbolic production of space. By proposing the concept of a “diasporic right to the city,” the article highlights housing as a gesture of belonging, resistance, and the creation of possible futures.
