Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the origins of Brazilian caipira music and go through the beginning of its trajectory to the break that affected the genre, pointing out the different notions that have had over time about the being caipira, its culture, its values and way of life. After to know the object, we intend to characterize the social identity of the caipira through the memories of the ancients, those evoked by music, cultural narratives and traditions, based from reports of old viola masters and young people inserted in Brazilian caipira culture, being verified the alive presence of this one and questioning on its continuity and representation in the present days.
