On the (dis) paths of indigenous literature in Rio Grande do Sul: contemporary Guarani narratives and narrators

Abstract

This article broaches the literature of the Guarani indigenous people in Rio Grande do Sul, focusing on their narratives and narrators. Our objective is to reflect on the processes of orality and writing of the narratives in these indigenous collectivities. The study is circumscribed in literary, anthropological and historical analyzes (Cf. MELIÀ, 1984; CLASTRES, 1990; PEREIRA, 2012, GRAÚNA, 2013). Our previous results indicate the permanence of the oral narrative practices among the contemporary Guarani in Rio Grande do Sul, a textuality that expresses millenial ethnic knowledge of these native indigenous collectives. In these terms, we conjecture that indigenous research demands that indigenous literature be understood as a possibility of continuity of time and valorization of the ancestral tradition, of the worldview and of the stories and myths of the Guarani people
