A brief layout on the gaucho regionalist story teller Simões Lopes Neto, along with biographical data and possible reading interpretation of four legends aesthetically reelaborated as novels in Lendas do Sul (1913) which can be seen as allegories of the State formation stages: Lunar do Sepé, a narrative about the guaranítcas disputes over the Madrid Treat which exchanged Colonia de Sacramento – Uruguayan territory – for Missões Brasileiras, O Negrinho do Pastoreio set on the charqueadas age showing the treatment given to black people by ranch owners, Mboitatá which presents the aboriginal influence and Salamanca do Jarau which shows the presence of Spaniards in our History.
