The illustrated book: reflections on art, illustration and narrative

This article seeks to reflect on the use of illustrated books in children's artistic education classes. We start from the concept of an illustrated book proposed by researcher Odilon Moraes and Sophie Van der Linden, who argue that, in this communicative context, the images are as important as the text for the understanding of the narrative. The article consists of testimonies on the author's professional experience, supported by theorists who consider reading mediation, the value of narration and the art of creating illustrated books. The illustrated books are an important reference for children in several aspects: they enrich their artistic-visual repertoire and the diversity of themes presented, emphasizing the meanings given to everyday life and promoting narration and fantasy. It is reiterated that these aspects are also political, given the possibility of building new horizons, creating new unimagined worlds and expanding proposals for a new everyday life.
