Aportes do pensamento pós-colonial e da interseccionalidade para a virada epistemológica da sociologia

Abstract

In this article, I analyze the contributions and critiques of three currents of thought towards an epistemological turn in sociology. Firstly, I examine the contributions of anti-colonial and post-colonial thought to the creation of an alternative canon in sociology (Go, 2023) and a new view of “global sociology” (Bhambra, 2014). Secondly, I outline the contributions of intersectionality to critical social theory (Collins, 2022), which considers categories often neglected by “normative” social theories (Chabaud-Rycher, 2014). Through a bibliographic analysis, I offer an initial understanding of the impact of the anti-colonial struggle and Black feminism on social theory, as well as some critiques of post-colonial thought and the concept of intersectionality concerning sociological thinking. I conclude by describing some common features of the three theoretical approaches to reflect on how these perspectives contribute to a critique of “metrocentrism” in the social sciences (Connell, 2012), the epistemicide of Black thinkers (Carneiro, 2023), and an overall geopolitical epistemological turn in the social sciences in general and in sociology in particular.
