Referencing activities: the use of time markers in narratives affiliated with the legendary Amazon

This work aims to analyze the temporal markers that constitute referencing processes in narratives affiliated with the legendary Amazon. Referencing occupies a privileged place in language studies, specifically in the field of cognition studies. The referential activities involve sociocognitive processes based on knowledge structures linked to the subjects' socio-interactive experiences. I take as a reference the postulations of Benveniste (2006), Fiorin (2002), Koch (2004, 2006), Marcuschi (2007) and Moura (2013). Temporal markers are structural discursive elements of textual activities. If this happens in a descriptive text or similar to such, it may constitute one of the main resources for the construction of narrative texts, in which the temporal factors lend themselves to contextualize facts and events, punctuating the presence of the speaker as to the form of temporal location of the discursive activity, so that the reader / listener / interpreter can share/ understand the logical-temporal (trans) course, according to acceptability principles, through which the producer manages to give meaning to the text. I analyze seventeen narratives referring to four themes, concerning the entities Boto, Cobra, Matintaperera and Curupira. In view of the observed phenomena, I found that the referential activities find specific ways to be carried out in the narrative texts under investigation, in which the temporal markers act as essential elements for the construction of sociodiscursive activities.Downloads
