Daniel Munduruku’s short story “the new skin of the old woman” and its role in the development of literary reading

Abstract

This research, an excerpt from the master’s dissertation entitled “Relations of alterity and literary literacy in the Brazilian indigenous tale of Daniel Munduruku: the new skin of the old woman”, aims to discuss literary literacy based on Amerindian literature. This, in turn, is still regarded with a restricted view even with policies and laws that require the use of its texts in classrooms. Based on the intention of making these narratives known, as well as their culture and identity, we present the relevance of Daniel Munduruku’s literature and its importance for the formation of literary readers. Thus, every reading practice must reach the point of leading the student to reflect that, by reading, he will be opening a new door of knowledge between his world and the world of the other. Hence the need for the tireless search to find this path of literary choices that form good readers through reading practices that humanize and transform the mentality, choices, perceptions and attitudes of everyday life. To this end, we rely on studies by Candido (2011), Munduruku (2004, 2021), Wapichana (2018), Cosson (2014), Lajolo (2001), among other authors who are fundamental in this study.
