Abstract

This essay aims to analyze intersemiotic translation process between the verbal (lyrics) and musical aspects of popular song and the video clip language. In this investigation, we apply the Semiotic concepts of Peirce to understand the building of meanings expressed by the same song in different ways of fruition. Besides Peirce’s Semiotics speculative grammar, the methodology also includes Semiotics concepts developed by Umberto Eco and Roland Barthes. The conclusion shows the potential of meaning transformations expressed by popular song when it is associated to images in its Semiotic translation in the video clip audiovisual language.
