This article aims to analyze how the outcast’s representation and self-representation are built in the crônica, a literary genre in contemporary Brazil. First, it starts with a general hypothesis that some crônicas manifest an effort as if giving voice to the subaltern individual (as an outcast). It also states that this voice is manifested by the subversive critical discourse based on Stuart Hall (1998, 2005); Silviano Santiago (1989, 2004); and Walter Mignolo (2003). For doing so, we have selected the following texts to investigate: “Rio de Sangue” by Ferréz (2009), “Estamos todos no inferno”, by Arnaldo Jabor (2006), and “Provocações”, by Luis Fernando Veríssimo (1999), well-known contemporary texts and writers.Downloads
