Coexistencias (in)visibles entre cuerpos afrocaribeños, humanos y divinos

En el pueblo de Old Bank (ubicado en la costa atlántica de Panamá), experiencias y narrativas sobre familiares, espíritus y magos interactúan con dos doctrinas cristianas (metodista y adventista), ambas presentes en el pueblo por más de cien años y vinculadas al mismo proceso histórico por que los antepasados afrocaribeños de la población local llegaron a Old Bank. Basado en una encuesta etnográfica de 14 meses, investigo la forma en que los lugareños se relacionan con Dios: esta agencia que, aunque (no) visible, está fuertemente presente en sus vidas, incluido su cuerpo. Al centrarme en el caso de las personas bautizadas en una de las instituciones locales, sostengo que provocan un cambio intencionado en sus vidas y cuerpos, transformando la forma en que se relacionan con los espíritus, magos y familiares, seres cuya presencia también es intensa en la vida y los cuerpos locales. , especialmente durante los rituales funerarios llamados nain nait. En este contexto, reflexiono sobre los conceptos nativos de persona y cuerpo, investigando la convivencia que se manifiesta en Old Bank entre agencias materiales (no) humanas (i) (in) visibles y la forma en que contribuye al debate antropológico sobre el parentesco, materialidad, agencia y religión en el Caribe.Citas
