Literature and reading media: affectivity, availability and purpose

This article discusses the relationship between reading media, literature, and accessibility in the digital age. In this context, its objective is to identify the motivations that lead young people to read in a medium other than their preferred one. To this end, a subset of the data corpus from the doctoral thesis developed by Batista (2025) at the State University of Londrina is analyzed. This is a qualitative and exploratory study that examines interviews with ten students in their final year of secondary education at five state schools in Paraná. The study is grounded in research conducted by Ribeiro (2017, 2020), Freud (2020), Leite (2011), Barthes (2004), Petit (2009), Jouve (2002), among others. The results indicate that, although access to literature has expanded through electronic devices, printed media remains the most preferred choice among young people.
