The "Enter-Place" of cordel leaflets in the 21st century

Abstract

At the intersection between past and present, classical and "vulgaris", oral and written, is the middle element, the connecting element, the "entre-lugar". Bhabha (2001) defines the term as the space of transition. The current study approaches the sense of "connection" to the role that the cordel plays in the Brazilian culture. Culture that is constantly from conflicting clash (and at the same time harmonious) cultures of different ethnic groups and people, far from their origins, unite the historical threads of their experiences in forming an imaginary fabric of memory founders speeches from foreign territories. Link between cultures, emphasis is placed on the cordel that links stories and figure as a bricolage, in the manner of Claude LeviStrauss (1989): a derivative of which some classify as art called "gross" or "naive", but that is able to perform a large number of diverse tasks. Product designed to "serve" as a bridge passage, connects and builds narratives, gives coherence to the images brought forth by the memory of each group. Thus concepts such as "entre-lugar" proposed by Bhabha (2001), subsidize the reflections on the role that the cordel has assumed nowadays by the path continuity of a memory that puts the challenges of transformation and development necessary for engagement and adaptation of cultural product string to the social system configured to weave the historical setting the XXI century.
