Marco: a recycling tradition

Abstract

The landmark is part of a poetic tradition of cordel literature that began with orality with singing and only later became inserted in the writing of the leaflets. The present work aims to analyze and compare two leaflets O Marco Brasileiro by Leandro Gomes de Barros, poet of the end of the 19th century, a reference in the historiography of Brazilian string literature and O Marco made by Maxado Nordestino by Franklin Maxado, aspiring poet for cordelista of writing this poem in the 1970s. Establishing parallels between the writing of these two writers is a strategy for observing how the tradition of Brazilian string literature is reaffirmed and remade. For this study, we understand cordel literature as dynamic and living art that relates to the present and that (re) builds its past and founds a tradition.
