The oral tradition Amerindian in an intersemiotic literary tessituras

Abstract

This study aims at investigating in what way and situation the trasposition of oral Amerindian tradition and memory occurs to the literary text and to the narratives that form it, composing a literary intersemiotics language where different systems of signification coexist. For doing so, the novel A História do Ventríloquo (1999), by Pauline Melville, will be analysed whose plot happens, almost completely, in the savannahs and rainforests of ex- British Guiana; involving many Amerindian tribes and their whole cultural complex which is preserved by orality and, currently, by the written linguistics registers. This research looks for taking among the line spacings marks of oral Amerindian language and poetics that, in one way or another, survived.
