Assuming that the journals in the nineteenth century have a proper journalistic writing (periodicity, collectivity, effect-section and topicality) and convey literary genres (novels, serial novels, chronicles, short stories, poems and critical essays), the purpose of this work is to demonstrate the discussions and debates on literary criticism in the state of Pará in the nineteenth century between Marques de Carvalho, editor of the journal A Arena (The Arena), and PLAN (pseudonym), columnist for A Província do Pará (The Province of Pará), to show the nineteenth century newspaper as a support that presents the polyphonic aspect as one of its salient features.Downloads
