Narrative, alterity and gender: the patriarchal imaginary and the literary archetypes

Through Humberto Maturana’s thesis about the matristic or pre-patriarchal cultures and also through the division of the imaginary in two systems in Gilbert Durand’s theories, we try to demonstrate the way paradigms became fi xed in the narrative traditionally elaborated by the patriarchal Occident, starting from the anthropological experience of gender. On the other hand, feminine symbols and images of body, death and chaos correspond to the fi guration of the Other inside the same imaginary system. In order to support this argument, we call forth some other authors on mythical criticism and on anthropological approach, such as Meletínski, Eliade, Campbell and Neumann.Downloads
