Abstract

This text deals with the argumentative procedures used in high school and college classes. It is emphasized that the use of such procedures can only be understood within the specific communication and interaction situation, i.e., the class. The procedures witn higher frequency are the causal relations (cause and consequence), the quotations or testimonies, and the examples, because they are the most adaptable to the interaction in classes. The other argumentation procedures require deeper mental elaboration and are not discussed in this paper.

Possui graduação em Letras (Português e Francês) pela Universidade de São Paulo (1969) , mestrado em Língua Portuguesa pela Pontifícia Universidade Católica de São Paulo (1980) e doutorado em Filologia e Língua Portuguesa pela Universidade de São Paulo (1990) . Atualmente é Professor Adjunto da Universidade Estadual de Londrina.
