Call for papers – Dossier: Civil disobedience and politically motivated illegalities: cases and experiences from the global south. (Mediações, vol. 31, n.3 – 2026/3)

Civil disobedience and other politically motivated illegalities were the subject of analysis by some of the most prominent social scientists, political philosophers, and jurists of the 20th century, inspired primarily by protests against the Vietnam War and the mobilization for civil rights in the United States. After decades of neglect, the topic has once again received attention as a way of interpreting the mobilizations initiated in the United States known as Black Lives Matter, as well as the growing dissatisfaction of citizens with the current performance of democratic regimes. If political practices in the Global North were crucial in drawing the attention of social sciences to the idea of civil disobedience, the political trends currently underway in the Global South may also justify the need to revisit this and other politically motivated illegalities. This dossier aims at bringing together and inspiring these works in the social sciences and related areas.

The call for articles for the dossier will be open until March 15, 2026 and original texts in Portuguese, Spanish and English will be accepted. Contributions must be sent through the system online in the magazine:
