Call for papers - Dossier: (De)regulations of the Digital in Constitutional Democracy (Mediações, vol. 30, n.2 – 2025/2)

2024-05-24

Organizers: Pedro Henrique Vasques (UNICAMP) and Lucas Baptista de Oliveira (Cedec and Flacso)

The dossier aims to discuss the implications of digital technologies on social norms, particularly in the context of law and constitutional democracy. Within this framework, the erosion of conditions for social justice due to neoliberalism and technological changes is highlighted. Political transformations include the rise of populist and proto-fascist leaders influenced by the spread of online misinformation. In the legal sphere, courts have become arenas for voicing social conflicts, while artificial intelligence raises questions about access, equity, and due process. Algorithmic regulation is presented as an approach to addressing these challenges, but it is necessary to consider the underlying structures of algorithms, such as platform capitalism. Thus, the dossier seeks to receive analyses of these strategies of algorithmic regulation and their implications for constitutional democracy, emphasizing the importance of examining both the foundations and effects of digital technologies, as well as responses and resistances to them.

The call for articles for the dossier will be open until March 15, 2025, and original texts in Portuguese, Spanish, and English will be accepted. Contributions should be submitted through the journal's online system:
