Mário Faustino was born in Teresina, Piauí, and still young, he became a Brazilian journalist, initially as a poetry critic at Jornal do Brasil, in Rio de Janeiro. His column, “Poetry-Experience”, published in the 1950s in the Sunday section, was a place of reflections on the guiding problems of poetic language in its various meanings. This article covers, in particular, the text “What is poetry?”, which arguments around the literary language is divided in two ways of composition (the poetic and the prosaic), it also dialogues with other important authors of the theoretical, contemporary or extemporaneous. The dialogues proposed here, sometimes convergent and sometimes divergent, follow the intuition and conceptual synthesis power of this Piauí writer, which has managed to summarize in a few pages some of the problems that have occupied literature studies for decades, problems that remain unsolved.Downloads
