Time is an element that discloses much more than chronological frameworks. Considering its fleeting aspect, it is associated to the inconstancy of the movement itself of life and literature. Taking this into consideration, is study analyzes the presence of time in five poems from the book Meditation on Ruins (1999) by Nuno Júdice. To do so, it uses the reflections of Martelo (2010), Benjamin (1989), Marques (2006), Friedrich (1978) and Agamben (2006). In the possible senses of the theme, the relation of the poet regarding literary tradition is marked by a perceived past as a mythical time, cultural legacy or element of the present itself. In Júdice’s poetry there is an awareness of the dynamic processes that constitute life and writing. In this sense, the poet notices the historical moment - contemporaneity - through the understanding of the relations with the inherited tradition, with its peers and with the new literary paths that will inevitably rise. In other words, time in his poetry lies between legacy and future, if not apocalyptic, at least troubled.References
