Afrânio Coutinho, Literary criticismAbstract
In the 1940s, Afrânio Coutinho emerges on the national scene as the one who promotes the passage from an impressionistic literary criticism to a based-on-aesthetic-criteria one. The critic and professor also contributed to the arising of the professional critic figure coming from academic world. As a result, Coutinho, with the collaboration of other specialists, publishes A literatura no Brasil (1955-1959) introducing a new criteria and promoting the abandon of historical periodization. In this paper, we deal with his trajectory and the stones in the middle of the road.Downloads
