This article proposes a reading of two poems from Alba (1983), the third publication by Brazilian writer Orides Fontela (1940-1998): “Composição” and “A mão”, in order to locate the particular importance of this book for the whole of the author’s literary production, as well as for Brazilian contemporary literature of the 1980’s. It is in Alba that Orides Fontela deepens her relationship with phenomenology and the field of perception, in which the poems illustrate the subject’s relationship with the world through the body’s presence, an element of contact with external objectivity, permeated by the contingent conditions of contemporary times.
