Negriticeness, Identity, imagined communityAbstract
The article proposes an afro-descendent imagined community, in which Ismael, Emanuel and Bertilia represent multiplicity and difference within literary African-Brazilianess. In Nelson Rodrigues’s Black Angel, black arielist Ismael symbolizes an assimilationist encounter with the white world, through an interracial marriage to Margarida. In Abdias do Nascimento’s Color’s Sortilege II, black calibanist/nationalist Emanuel stands for afro-centric traditions and religious experiences. Finally, in my Color’s Eye, black/white eshuist Bertilia performs a catalyst mixture of black and white culture through the language of different texts.Downloads
