This article intends to analyze how familiy relationships in the short story “Clínica de repouso”, by Dalton Trevisan, portray the subversion of the patriarchal and matriarchal orders, pointing at the alteration of the traditional Brazilian family core as a result from historical and political transformations in the country. It also intends to examine a possible allegoric meaning in the narrative from the moment Maria’s mother, Ms. Candinha, the protagonist of the narrative, is sent to the Senior Citizen’s Home, which seems to question opressive practices of the political regime at the time. This meaning can also be emphasized by the utilization of comic elements in the work.Downloads
