Buenos Aires as literary space in Borges: “La muerte y la brújula”

Buenos Aires was always a recurring theme in Jorge Luis Borges’s production. In as much as the prestige acquired by his work in the whole world provided his city with the legendary character of the big cities sung and immortalized by the artists who lived in them. On one hand, this paper intends to show the Buenos Aires recreated by Borges in his texts, and on the other to reveal the influence of the aforementioned city in Borges’s literary production focusing the short story “Death and the Compass”, one of the masterpieces of the detective fiction, in which the city is presented not only by its setting but also as one of its characters.Downloads
