In 1986, the Department of Education of the State of Parana - SEED started a process of educational reform aimed at restructuring elementary and secondary educational systems which had as its goal the reduction of dropout rates and a balance between the gap age and the school grade. This reform had as its starting point secondary education, and later elementary education. Thus, in 1988 a guidebook for secondary teaching was published. Four years later they released the "Core Curriculum for Public Schools of Parana '(hereinafter the 'document'), a collection outlining the philosophical precepts that guided the new curriculum proposal and making suggestions for the various areas of elementary education curriculum, such as: Portuguese Language, Mathematics, History, Geography, Science, Arts, Physical Education, Modern Foreign Languages and Social and Political Organization in Brazil.
