The purpose of this article is to present and discuss an alternative didactic tool for the teaching of reading, the reading diary, used in my master's degree research (BUZZO, 2003). The presentation will be based on the conception of active responsive understanding (BAKHTIN, 1953/1997), on the strategies of reading learning (DOLZ, 1994) and on a sample of the analysis results: a reading diary.
