O presente artigo deter-se-á na análise da abordagem dos falsos amigos pelos livros didáticos de Espanhol para brasileiros, selecionados pelo PNLD 2011. Para tanto, fundamentamo-nos nos estudos sociolinguísticos das variedades do Espanhol e do Português brasileiro e expomos a metodologia utilizada para a análise da abordagem destes vocábulos. Em nossa análise, tomamos por base as influências sócio-linguístico-culturais de uma sociedade sobre a teoria e a prática da tradução, considerando os processos de variação e mudança linguísticas. Constatamos que vários problemas podem acontecer no processo de tradução de uma língua para outra, caso o livro didático desconsidere o valor estilístico e sócio-histórico dos falsos amigos presentes no contexto.
