A maçã (Malus domestica Borkhausen) é uma das culturas mais difundidas para o consumo "in natura" ou processada, com a oportunidade para o Brasil em ingressar no mercado internacional. Em vista ao novo perfil desta cultura, desenvolveu-se uma revisão conscientizando sobre a patulina, micotoxina mais freqüente em maçã, a fim de minimizar eventuais problemas surgidos com a sua comercialização.
