Abstract

This research, located in the ambit of Discourse Analysis known as of French School, has as theoretical-analytical axis the notion of subject, from Michel Pêcheux’s studies. Every discourse is produced by a subject and, at the same time, it builds meanings that represent social, historical, and ideological positions in this subject. Thus, the subject teacher is also marked by his/her social, ideological, and historical traits and his/her discourses, materially manifested in the classroom, at meetings, conversations or interviews, reveal his/her identity. Before this issue, the objective of this work is to analyze the building of the image of the subject teacher of Portuguese of the Elementary and High School in Maringá, Paraná, Brazil. The research corpus is constituted by answers to a questionnaire which were given by teachers of Portuguese of Elementary School – third and fourth grades – and of High School, in different state schools in Maringá. By means of the analysis of the discourses emerged from the questionnaires, it was possible to build an image of the subject teacher of Portuguese, as well as to think of the manifestation of this subject on the discursive process.
