Resumo

Trata-se de um comentário sobre o conceito de imaginal, usado em trabalhos acadêmicos e não acadêmicos de variadas áreas em nossos dias, formulado inicialmente pelo filósofo medieval persa Surauardi. Começo com o estatuto ontológico da imagem como ser-em-suspensão e o contexto de sua elaboração, passando por um comentário sobre as possibilidades imaginais para além da representação, sobretudo na experiência religiosa e, por fim, abordo a questão da espacialidade peculiar desse “mundo” intermediário que é ālam al-mithāl, o mundo imaginal. Nesse sentido, há um duplo movimento no texto: i) citar e elaborar possibilidades menos “religiosas” de leitura, saindo um pouco da órbita literário-secundária da recepção de Henry Corbin, ainda que sem deixar de lembrar de que ordem são os problemas que Surauardi se esforça por resolver; ii) produzir um comentário geral sobre o pensamento de Surauardi e Xarazuri que justifique seus usos contem­porâneos e incentive ainda outros.
