Abstract

This review revisits the discussions held at the round table composed of professors Celso Fernandes Campilongo, Fernando Rister de Sousa Lima, and Raffaele de Giorgi at the 11th International Congress of the Brazilian Association of Researchers in Sociology of Law (ABraSD), recorded in the book “Law, certainty, and uncertainty in global society.” The analyses of these experienced professors provide useful tools for understanding contemporary social phenomena, which occur in a landscape marked by differentiation and uncertainty. Particularly in relation to the legal system, it is timely, at the present moment, to recall the (functional) importance of preserving the binary nature of the legal system, given the possible degradation of its autonomy. The discussions contained in the reviewed book are indeed helpful in considering this issue.
