Abstract

This paper aims to map and analyze the circulation of the expressions "romance transmídia" and "romance transmidiático" in Brazilian academic databases to understand whether these terms indicate the theorization of a new genre. The investigation stems from the conceptual tension between transmedia narrative, as formulated by Henry Jenkins (2006), and traditional definitions of the novel, which emphasize textuality and the presence of prose. This exploratory and documentary study is based on a systematic review of repositories such as CAPES, Google Scholar, SciELO, and institutional digital libraries. This study was spearheaded by the observation that, although the expression "romance transmidiático" has been used in editorial and market contexts, its academic conceptualization remains incipient in Brazil. By shedding light on this disjunction, the article contributes to theorizing processes involved in emerging new literary genres.
