In recent decades, discussions about literary production and criticism have introduced new theoretical approaches in literature to observe the transformations occurring in text construction. Simultaneously, it is evident that literature remains intricately linked to history, with the ideologies of each period affirming that tradition and rupture continue to form the chain of continuity, providing support for various critical productions. Our purpose is to present an analysis of landscapes and images in “Aparição” by Vergílio Ferreira, emphasizing the text’s structure and observing elements highlighted by Eagleton (1977). The literary text is a blend of poetry and prose, historical and social facts, accompanied by a preface and a postscript. This Vergilian text prompts theoretical reflections on images, landscapes, visual phenomena, and the interrogative text, drawing upon the works of Catherine Belsey, Maurice Merleau-Ponty, and Michel Collot, who serve as the foundation for our assertions. In this manner, the related theories are presented to elucidate and clarify the language of the selected excerpts for the corpus of this study.
