Published in 1951, Internato, a novel by Paulo Hecker Filho, narrates the misfortunes of a teenager to see or recognize himself as a homosexual in a boarding school. This is not a story common to the Brazilian literary tradition, which rarely shows this representation of homosexual teenagers. This article, in addition to introducing the author, offers a sample of the critical reception of the text and analyzes Paulo Hecker Filho’s narrative based on the relationships established by the protagonist with other schoolmates, especially with regard to the representation of masculinities present in the universe of the boarding school where the characters are located.Downloads
