This article aims at offering a study on the way photography (specifically postcards) played an important role in the building up of the image of Rio de Janeiro as a modern metropolis as perceived in the tropical belle époque´s periodism. In order to achieve such aim, issues of Kosmos magazine published between 1904 and 1905, when the new main avenue was inaugurated, being a symbolical remark of the whole project of urbanization designed by the ruling class in that historical moment.Downloads
