This paper aims at describing a way to teach academic/school summary as a genre, based on the theoretical frame of the sociodiscursive interactionism. Firstly the summary definition adopted, as well as the reasons that motivated the choice of this genre, will be presented. Then the theoretical and methodological concepts that pervade this study and underlie the suggestion of activities will be explained. Finally, the conclusions that show the need of teaching the school/academic summary as a genre - since it presents its own characteristics, according to the sociodiscursive interactionism - will be exposed.
