Contrastive Linguistics and the teaching/learning of foreign languages at present: some relations

This paper summarizes what was presented as a coference in the I Simposium of Contrastive Linguistics and Text Genres. It is pointed out that Contrastive Linguistics appears in 1945, gets stronger in the 50s, falls into crises in the 80s, but recovers its strength and it is used in order to strengthen the process of foreign languages teaching and learning.
